First on the docket--an ultrasound of her bladder and kidneys. Short, sweet, and she handled it like a pro. Afterwards, they gave her a little knitted bear, which she enjoyed chewing on immensley.
After that was a VCUG or a vascular....something or other. An x-ray type thing where they shoot some dye into her bladder, via catheter (nice...) and then watch to see what it does. This was not as much fun. First of all, I didn't have her diaper bag with us because we were supposed to have a break inbetween procedures [the first was only supposed to be 10 min.] So no bottle or binky. A nurse went to go find Jeremy, but he had disappeared with Jeremiah [who did NOT, under and circumstances, want to leave the waiting area.] This cleary annoyed the radiologist who was performing the test, since we had no way to calm Jesslyn down, other than letting her suck on my pinky. And Jesslyn wasn't exactly having a grand old time being held down, naket, while some big x-ray machine hovered over her... All she wanted was for Mommy to pick her up, and of course, as soon as I did, she was fine. Though I must say, she was great almost the whole time [even when they put the catheter in!] but had just had enough by the end.
End result? "She has stage 2 reflux on both sides..." meaning, her kidneys discharge urine into her bladder, and some of it goes back up into the kidneys, when it should be a one way street. This is the likely cause of her UTI. Awesome. Most kids grow outta this, but they may want to put her on antibiotics for a couple of years.... Uhh... yeah right. We'll see, but I don't think we'll be doing that. I didn't particularly care for this radiologist gal... She didn't seem very caring, didn't even introduce herself, and then left before I had a chance to ask questions. I guess we'll wait and see what the pediatrician says and go from there.
And to top it all off, Jeremiah needs to go to a speech therapist... I didn't realize how far behind he'd gotten with his speech, but I guess it's worse than I thought. We have an appointment set up with the county (tax dollars at work) but it's not 'til May! So we may go the private route and let the insurance pick up the tab, for at least some of it.
What a mess. It's all good, though. Things could always be worse, and this is no exception. Loads o' fun.
I need a vacation....
