After nearly 20 years, Joker lives...

It's been officially announced that one of our favorite gay cowboys will be playing the infamous oldest villain in comic book history, The Joker (behind Lex Luther, of course, but Lex was never as badass as the Joker... sorry, Lex...) Heath Ledger is taking the role of the psychotic madman in the newest installment of the Batman series, The Dark Knight.

Did I mention that I LOVE the Dark Knight series of Batman? Never really got into the Detective Comics (where we first meet Batman and his foes), but man... the Dark Knight series is just so harsh and edgy and... well... freaky! This Joker is not the Joker you came to know and love back when Old Jack took up the role in the late 80's... Nah, this one is much more... disturbed? Maniacal? Evil? Messed up?! All of the above? Well, you get the idea.

I'm a bit concerned for ole Heathy, though... He's gotta pull this off the right way, or people will be comparing him to Jack Nicholson, and you really don't wan that--cause "Jack" was the man back the day! However, I think Ledger is different enough to be able to put that wacko, neurotic twist on the Joker that will allow both versions of the character to exist peacefully. Heck, the movie will probably already be better simply because we'll be sans Vicky Vale and all her yellin'. Oh, and for a double whammy... little chance Tom Cruise will let his kitty Katie out to place for the sequel, too. I could be wrong, but as of right now, she's not signed on. That's a good thing. **keep them fingers crossed** [[I think we should make a new rule in Hollywood--neither Tom Cruise, nor Katie Holmes may be cast in another movie until Suri shows up. Until she does, I'm saying,"FAKED!"]]
