I know, technically, I'm a day late, but here on the West Coast, it's only ten o'clock, so I'm still good.
We walked from our hotel to the San Diego Zoo today (just Jeremiah and me... Daddy was working.) When the gal at the Concierge desk highlighted the route on the map, it didn't look very far. Turns out it was about 3.5 miles, mostly uphile. Now, for those of you who are city dwellers, that's probably a walk in the park. But for us suburban types who drive everywhere, yeah, that was quite the hike. Add the hills, the stroller, and then walking around the zoo itself (which is huge, and I kept getting lost, so we gave up after about an hour... they were closing anyways!)
Was going to walk home, but the muscles in my legs that haven't gotten that much attention in a long time just wouldn't have it. So we cabbed it. The stupid cabbie, though, started the meter before we even got in the car, and then didn't stop it until we were completely unloaded and ready to walk off. I shouldn't have given him a tip... I thought I was being a stickler by giving him $2, but he seemed happy with that, so I guess I gave him too much. Oh well.
Needless to say, walking to the mall tomorrow now seems like a small feat. I wasn't particularly impressed with the zoo.... We saw a few animals, like some meerkats, which Jeremiah loved, and some birds, monkeys, otters (another fave of Jemiah's), and hippos. The hippos were cute, they were just standing underwater, cuddling next to each other. I'm serious, they just stood there, with their front legs up on a rock, and their heads nuzzling... Very sweet. I didn't think they were real at first, they were so perfectly posed, but every now and then, they'd move their heads ever so slightly. It was sweet--Jemiah could care less... They weren't very exciting to him.
And that's that. Tomorrow is Jeremy's birthday, so happy birthday, babish! The big 3-1... That's gettin' up there. :) We're going out for a schwanky dinner to celebrate--Morton's steak... mmmm.... should be yummy!
