The Honeymoon

Moved from jeremyandjess.blog-city.com

As we approach the 6 month anniversary of our marriage (yes, it's been that long already), it's come to our attention that we haven't posted anything new here in quite a while. For some time, we thought the blog had died, and blog-city evicted us for good. And then the email arrives that says, "We've added new features to your blog!"---jeremyandjess.blog-city.com has been revived.

Quite a bit has happened in the time between the wedding and now. Obviously, we had our honeymoon at an all-inclusive resort in beautiful (but stiffling hot) Cozumel, Mexico. Pre-hurricane season, it was lovely. We rarely had rain (though we usually begged for it as relief from the hot hot sun), both were sunburned the first day, and drank more margaritas (watered down) than we ever really needed. Breakfast was served 8 am to 11:30 am, lunch 12:30-4, dinner 5:30-8 (most restaurants, the pizzareia was open 'til 1:30 am), so you were STUFFED all day long. Usually, we would wake up at 10 or so, go to breakfast, then hang out by the pool 'til lunch, go to lunch, go back to our room for the afternoon, watch tv, go to dinner, go to the pool or sit in the bar and play checkers or chess, and then go to bed. And we were perfectly okay with that.

We did venture out a couple of times with another couple that had been there many times before. They took us to Playa del Carmen for shopping. That was a tiring day... we walked through the streets, checking out shops (sometimes just for the ac) all while baking in the sun. We were greatly relieved to find a restaurant for lunch that had AC. It felt sooo good walking in there after being out in the +100 degree temps. About halfway through our meal, though, it started getting hot again. Even with the AC, it was probably still 80/85. But it was a nice break, nontheless. We bought some soveniers, and several bottles of Tequila and Kahlula ($9 compared to their $35/$40 counterparts here in the states). Afterwards, we stopped at the locals' grocery store for more reasonably priced "schtuff", like pure vanilla (a fraction of the cost than at sovenier shops), coffee, and water babies sunblock (ever try sports sunblock on your face??? IT BURNS!).

The next day, I was sick... dunno what it was... probably the ice in the water (what's the point of giving you bottled water with dirty ice???) from the restaurant. So we stayed in most of the day. Luckily, it was nothing serious, and we were back to our adventursome selves again the next day (hung out by the pool... yeah, living on the edge...).

This couple friend of ours took us around the less touristy side of the island the next day... we got to walk on the rocky beaches, collect sea sponges and coral that had washed ashore, and went to Coconuts (pretty sure that was the place). Basically, it's a bar on the side of the cliff. It was very nice... Had a beverage with some yummy chips and salsa, took pictures with their 25+ year old iguana
and then called it a night.

After they left, we resumed our previous schedule of just chilling at the resort. 'Course, by then it was the weekend (we went Sunday to Sunday), and all of a sudden, the resort was overcrowded with weddings and such... It was so annoying... These people made so much noise, and crowded up the restaurants that it was pretty much a relief when it was time to leave (we had a rock for a bed, too, with a brand new super plush comfy mattress waiting for us at home). So by the time we returned home on Sunday evening, we were so relieved to be there, we just crashed. Monday was Memorial Day, so we were able to chill a bit. Went out to Warrenton for a barbeque, and had a relaxing afternoon in my (Jess') parents pool. Quite a fun-filled week, eh? :-)

More to come about other stuff going on--we'll be more active in updating this on a regular basis now (got the bug from Paige's blog... so we'll see how long this lasts!).

Thanks for stopping back in!
