It seemed like a good idea at the time...
Yesterday, Jeremiah and I went to the farmer's market that they hold across the street at the park. Just needed a few veggies that I couldn't find at Costco last week. Of course, the bread guy was there, and he had some really YUMMY raspberry bread. Mmmm... we ate the whole loaf in one day, it was so good! Basically, a more dense version of Portuguese sweet bread with a raspberry sauce running through it. SO GOOD!
Anyways, I got a bunch of veggies from the produce guy--huge box of sweet potatoes (they keep for 5-6 months!), squash, savoy cabbage (for some reason, ya don't see it in the stores around here very often...), tomatoes (I know, technically a fruit, but c'mon... who really thinks of it like a fruit?) a huge butternut squash and some corn.
Now, the corn, I wasn't going to get, but I tried it and it was really good corn! So, okay, fine, I'll get it, shuck it, and freeze it, and we'll have yummy fresh corn all winter, too.
So yeah, got a bushel of corn, for a good price, and hauled it all home (had to go back to get the car, no way it'd all fit in the stroller.) I figured I'd have a chance today to deal with the corn, so after Jeremiah's nap, I let him roam around the family room while I shucked corn husks into a box. At first, all good. But I noticed there were a lot of little holes in the husks, though most of them didn't go all the way through to the corn. So I kept on getting on, and then it happened--I pulled the husk off one ear, and a little gray worm squiggled away into the corn! EWWWWWW!
I dropped that ear the in box, and was done with that! A fluke, maybe, I thought, so I started again. More holes in this one, so I didn't bother, just threw it in the box. Went to grab the next ear, and there was a HUGE short, gray worm, just sittin' there. EWWWWWWW!!! By then, I was done, no more shucking for me.
Well, I got about 8 ears out of it... Unless someone wants to come over and brave the bugs to help me get the rest of my corn. Jeremy's too scared, too. I'm thinkin' of asking my brother, but he's a big wimp as well. What's wrong with all these men???? Scared of wittle bugs! I'm not "scared" of them, per se, just grossed out. But anyways... for now, it's all just gonna sit on the deck.
I hope my sweet potatoes are okay....
