The Astroland amusement park at Coney Island turned off it's lights for the last time over the weekend. The rides are for sale, and the land will probably be developed into something else.
:(
I remember going at least once (may have been twice) when I was a kid. It was so much fun, despite the fact it was no Six Flags or Kings Dominion park. I guess it's just hard to accept that a piece of "childhood" will no longer be there.
The Cyclone roller coaster and ferris wheel will probably remain, as they're owned by the city, but everything else will be gone.
Oh well. These things happen, right? I'm sure it won't be the last childhood landmark to be torn down in my lifetime.
Hopefully Disney World doesn't get wiped out by Ike next! Though I'd rather still have Astroland around, personally... All I remember about Disney was waiting in way-to-long lines, overpriced food/souveniers, and an embarrassing episode involving a box of ice cream snacks and a 45 minute wait at Space Mountain.... yeah.... anyways.
